Observations on the Yagé.

Abstract

The materials collected by Reinburg, Rivet and Rouhier are obviously belonging to the same species; by the hue, shape, nervures, they seem to come from the same individual, possibly taken at different heights, or at different times. This fourth sample was named: “Hoja y flores de Yage,” and its label did proposed an official geographic origin: “Deplo del Valle del Cauca, Oficina deptal, Cali”. It is the Colombian Yajé, which is certainly not questionable. After analysis, drawing, research in scientific works and herbal collections, this is Banisteria Caapi Spruce. But this Banisteria provides Caapi drugs. It is therefore necessary to conclude that the Colombian Yajé is Caapi . But obviously the Yaji of Colombia is not the Yajé of Ecuador; the fourth sample is not identical to the first three. What are the first three? what is the Yajé of Ecuador? It's a Malpighiacea, most likely a Banisteria. I compared it to the Banisteria of our great collection and I could only bring it closer to B. ferruginea Spr. of which he is distinct.
