Mr. A. F. HAMMERMAN of the Applied Botanical Office of Leningrad sent us a reprint from a study he has published in Russia. The following publication is the translation of the findings:
Indians living along the left tributaries of the upper Amazon course make use of toxic beverage, obtained from a vine. According to the information provided by travellers, this narcolic drink is given different names depending on the Indian region or tribes.
Caapi, Kahi
Yagé, Yahé
Ayahuasca
Iyona
Natema
Nepe
Pinde
Unlike most Authors wrote, agreeing that among the vines in the whole region there is only one producing narcotic, more proballemenl Banisteria Caapi Spruce, research on our materials has proved that in Caqueta Province, Colombia, there are at least three different plants with which we can prepare for beverage, one of them being Banisteria quitensis.
