Hallucinogens and shamanism in the Harakmbet tribe.

Pages: 207 - 227

Abstract

I choose, for many reasons, the harakmbet tribe to deal, in a few pages, with the shamanism of the south-western area of the Peruvian Amazon tropical forest. Harakmbet shamanism must be studied and understood in all Amazon cultures. For many centuries, embayorokeri have studied natural laboratories: jungle flora. Certifying which weed is hallucinogenic or not, is a matter that involves applying intelligence and contrasting experience; thus one goes to one and other discards. Shamans are philosophers, historians, priests, etc. They know how much the tribe needs to continue in this world and they gear, through their therapeutic actions, how much it is necessary to cohesion ethnicity by avoiding or polishing conflicts. As an important aspect I will continue to provide, in the future, other data that I consider necessary to reach the knowledge of Amazon cultures.
