All shamans consider their use for personal purposes as the brand of black magic. They believe that it is dangerous to build up shamanic knowledge if they cannot be immediately invested in the service of the community. It is on this basis that we could distinguish the shamans from the Neo-Shamans: if the first are at the service of others, the second practice some shamanic techniques by orienting them on self-realization.
Finally, neo-shamanism, synthesizing not without a bad idea of two world designs, tends to structure or sacralize what it takes from shamanic traditions. His sessions are characterized by an incalculable number of rules, prohibitions and precedents to be respected; they are hierarchized, frozen by a certain protocol, sometimes marked by an incredible devotion, and even christic compassion: as many features as are not found in the shamanic traditions, which leave a great place for freedom of expression, improvisation and even humor. By focusing on the forms more than the background, some neo-shamans eventually lost in a vision of the repetitive world, a kind of mystical impasse.
