The shamanic cult of Chavín de Huántar in the iconographic sources.

Pages: 223 - 236

Abstract

Chavín images would then be the plastic objectivation of hallucinatory experiences due to the use of drugs of vegetable origin, while their formal complexity and apparent baroque would be the direct expression of the experience of the shamanic flight and cosmos dynamics. Anastomosis, anamorphosis, anatropy and bilateral symmetry compared to the vertical axis would therefore constitute genuine composite rules of a syntax designed to mitically restore the stone a vision of the world based on the credence in a space-time fraction of cosmos, functional dualism that souls it and in the necessary ritual intervention of the shaman who ensures continuity and harmony.
