From one of these “new” religions born in Brazil, the author shows the complexity of the relationship between economic and political modernity, which offers special conditions for the birth of the movement, and the movement itself, from one context of rooting to the other (local, national, international), modules its rites and speeches in accordance with the expectations of its audience, and positions itself both against, in and out of a certain modernity.
