Ayahuasca reception in Spain.

Abstract

This research work has sought to explore an unpublished social imaginary in Spain: that of Amazonian shamanic practices in this country. Since the study of the use of a particular psychoactive substance such as Ayahuasca, a much broader picture can be seen that we can go into what we might call Sacred Anthropology, not Anthropology of Religions. In 2008, Ayahuasca arrived in Spain, long enough to have spread widely, to the point of hearing that it has become a fashion. And this even though ‘no one drinks Ayahuasca in an impunity manner’ (Inf. AG). In these years, the ways to take it have been diversified, and today we can find in Spain a wide set of ceremonies that have great similarities among themselves, and also numerous and very relevant differences, although not so appreciable in the eye.
