A way of acting in the world : Amazonian shamanism.

Pages: 109 - 134

Abstract

It is fields that lead you to specific research, as there are individuals who direct you to certain areas of reflection. Shamanism questions, practices and acts in very different societies and environments. It is found almost daily in the media, and it also works daily in bodies, houses, villages, towns, regions... The aim of this contribution is to provide a general overview of current anthropological research on shamanism in the lowlands of South America, but also, more marginally, on what has been called “neo-shamanism” (indigenous and non-indigenous) that is developing throughout Latin America and around the world. However, the study of these neo-shamanism, which sometimes take the shape of a real industry in certain regions (as in the case of mystical tourism), would clearly require a major work far beyond the limits of this text.
