Ayahuasca, between visions and frightening.

Pages: 93 - 106

Abstract

Within the American ethnic groups, provoking and managing his fear makes sense (see also what is very correct - Patrick Deshayes about this, 2002). Jointly, frightening and knowledge structure and build whole beings. The American way of knowledge is thus based not on “distance” but on interrelation systems. The shaman llacuash is also called yachaq, translated from my usual “whoever knows”. Gerald Taylor (2006) gives this term that he or- thography yaĉak (in the Quechua dialect spoken to Chachapoyas), the following definition: the “The one who knows the secrets of nature”. Knowing here is to adopt the point of view of what we seek to know… which requires to master the frightening of the metamorphosis. This discipline involves imaginary and rules, without which fear is deprived of its knowledge.
