Abstract

The theme of the article is the contemporary shamanism in indigenous contexts and non-indigenous, at forest and cities. Shamanism is addressed here as a cultural symbolic system associated with the use of “forest medicines” or psychoactive substances, which is increasingly present in urban centers, as in Rio de Janeiro, and local and transnational contexts. The purpose of the article was to show a brief mapping research on Amerindian shamanism, associated with predation and hunting, and on urban ayahuasca shamanism, coupled with the reinvention of the use of psychoactive plants, especially ayahuasca. Highlight research that address the relationship between the Amerindian shamanism and religions and urban ayahuasca groups, which are part of contact networks, where there is the production of "alliances". I conclude that alliances are points of contact through these networks, and every kind of "alliance" has its specificities within a system of exchanges due to the different characteristics leaders involved. Amid this shamanisms dialog, the logic of predation of Amerindian shamanism is being transformed, acquiring new faces. Key words: shamanism; predation; hunting; ayahuasca; psychoactive plants.
