On August 12, Netflix released ‘Un-well’ (‘Contra-indicated’), a documentary series on alternative therapies. Over 6 episodes of one hour duration, the series devastates promises, achievements and risks of essential oils, tantric sex, breast milk, fasting, ayahuasca and bee stings. In the matter that concerns us, the ayahuasca, Netflix devotes the fifth chapter, a documentary that is very interesting for the general public, although limited for its own duration – an hour barely gives an outline of such a broad and deep theme – and ethnocentrism, the piece focuses on the use of ayahuasca in the United States, the main Netflix market, although it has the detail of travelling to Peru, a world epicenter of the expansion of ayahuasca.
