In this paper, a close analysis of the music of one Peruvvian curandera (healer) sheds some light on issues in ethnomedicine, Amazonian history and the nature of shamanic practice. Here I focus on a selection of the icaros of one curandera from northern Peru. She is well known for her work leading ceremonies for a primarily non-indigenous audience throughout the Americas.
