Campa shamans take ayahuasca frequently, often keeping a supply on hand for this purpose. In addition, from time to time, by decisionor by request, they conduxt a group ceremony involving ayahuasca. This ceremony is essentially a shamanistic séance, but the shaman puts on a show to the extent on certain of the distinctive qualities of priestly ritual. Some recent missionary inflences may be suspected in this case.
