This paper focuses on tours organized from the Czech Republic to the Amazon for participating in ayahuasca ceremonies. Ayahuasca is a psychoactive preparation that is nowadays used primarily for healing and personal development. The main objective of this article was to find out what motivates Czech tourists to visit the Amazon and drink it. Furthermore, we explained how tours are organized based on the participants' perceptions. The fieldwork was carried out between January and June 2018. A total number of 21 informants (9 women and 12 men) participated in our research. Semi-structured interviews with an average length of 37 minutes were recorded (15 hours in total). The transcripts were analyzed by the Grounded Theory method. The results indicate that several interrelated factors play a role in the decissionmaking of participants in ayahuasca tours: gaining knowledge, involvement of friends and family members, invitation by natives, and adventures. Czechs prefer partially escorted tours to Colombia, Peru and Ecuador.
