Many of the species containing ,B-carboline alkaloids have been used in popular medicine and several of the bases isolated have been submitted to pharmacological studies, and a few of them even employed in therapeutics. But outside America, so far as I know, plants containing those alkaloids have not been employed for their hallucinogenic properties.
