As with hallucinogens, so with hallucinogen research: to facilitate a beneficial and enduring impact, we must give appropriate attention to the larger intellectual setting in which this research occurs, and adapt our intentions, methods and conclusions to standard scientific principles so that we attain to the highest levels of rigor, inquiry, and transparency. Otherwise, this recent adventure in hallucinogen research might turn out an isolated event, fondly remembered, maybe, but without any real impact on our lives: a wasted trip.
