Abstract

The use of widespread standards for data collection and analysis, which are derived in most cases, from bordering disciplines, is important to the field of ethnopharmacology. However, it is equally important for our growth as a field to also explore and push disciplinary boundaries in order to gain new insights into phenomena that are thought to be thoroughly researched. It is impossible to predict which branch of science or specific thought will advance human knowledge in a few years or decades, thus it is important to explore and assess different ideas, even if they diverge from the comfortable perspective of “normal”. Still, this has to be done very carefully, to meet the main criteria of science, such as the basis for conclusions being properly explained, the data well-documented and the results repeatable.
