Abstract
In conclusion, the data show that traditional New World societies have used hallucinogenic drugs as a vehicle to gain access to the unconscious often projected outward onto the world of spirit forces. Music, in this psychic drama, is much more than a mean of setting up mood for the participants. Our data, in fact, suggest that the implicit structure of music fills the void left by the effects of the drug and provides a new strucutre to the participant, which shamanic guidance is able to utilize in the service of culturally valued goals.
