Abstract

An enzyme capable of forming the hallucinogen Dimetyltryptamine was found in human red blood, plasma, and platelets. The enzyme activity in red blood cells and plasma was not significantly different that in normal subjects. The enzyme activity in platelets was higher in psychootic patients than in nonpsychotics and apparently related to the presence of a dialyzable inhibitor in the normal subjects.
